Rise Slammers @ London Transport Museum

National Poetry Day

To celebrate the re-launch of the London Transport Museum in Covent Garden, National Poetry Day, October 4th, will see 10 Rise Slammers battling out in the museums new theatre space.

The event will be a secret slam in which the judges - comprised of David Sharpe (Poetry Society), a Michael Dupri of the LTM and a randomly selected member of the audience - will collate their scores throughout the performance and then, after moderation and serious consideration, elect an overall winner. This is an exciting opportunity for the young artists invited to take part as the winning poet/ rapper will become London Transport Museum poet-in-residence for one year. Their residency wil involve at least one poem commission and will probably also include performances on behalf of the LTM too.

Watch this space for live photographs of the event taken by Eric Brown, which will later form part of an exhibiton in the Poetry Cafe of the Rise Slammers - with portfolio photographs also provided by Hayley Madden.

Poets and Rappers lined up include~:

Jay Bernard, Chinedum Nwokonkor, Chris Preddie, PACE, Korbel, Bee Soetan, Jamal Msebele, Natalie Leer, Danielle Miller, Deep Cuz, along with this year's Rise Slam Stars Onome Edgeworth and Stephanie Turner.
