Workshop Weekend

As a part of their overall Rise Showcase Team prize, the poets and rappers who spat it out in City Hall for a place in the live finals at the Rise Festival, are invited to attend a masterclass weekend with Joelle Taylor. This is a closed event - available to only those in the team.

SLAMbassadors

This intensive two-day masterclass is designed to help the participants prepare for their professional performance at the RISE festival on July 15 in Finsbury Park. The workshop features writing and performance exercises, group direction sessions, skills sharing, mic technique, a forum for artistic discussion on their own and each other’s development, and the creating of original group/ polyvocal work to feature at the festival. It is also where the grounds for the first cut of the anothology album will be laid. The 2006 workshop was the best attended in the history of the slam, and those that turned up were an inspiration – both to each other and to the facilitator – providing the co-ordinator with real grounds for creating a weekly workshop for regular group meetings. The material devised during these sessions will be challenging and complex, unique and inspirational, and will help found the basis of a  slam team that London can be proud of.

Following the first workshop on the Saturday 7th July a few of us will make our way up to Finsbury Park where - hot from the workshop freestyle - we will perform at a kicking street party for WKD Jam (big up Danny!!). On the Sunday, we will be hitting the underground and Covent Garden Piazza in an effort to getting the emerging artists as much exposure to as many different audiences as possible.
