An annual competition, exclusive to members of the Poetry Society who are also members of a Poetry Society Stanza. For poems of up to 30 lines. First prize: a free Poetry Prescription (your poetry appraised by an expert) or 1 year’s free membership of the Poetry Society (or equivalent); plus publication in Poetry News, the Poetry Society’s membership magazine, and on the Poetry Society website. 2 runners up also published on the website. Maximum 2 poems. The theme of the competition is the antithesis of the National Poetry Day theme e.g. in 2009 the theme is ‘Villains' (as a balance to the National Poetry Day 09 theme of ‘Heroes and Heroines’). Poems are judged anonymously.
The winners are announced on these pages on National Poetry Day and in Poetry News.
